FAQs
Will acoustic panels make my home completely soundproof?
Will acoustic panels make my home completely soundproof?
No — and this is the most common mix-up among home buyers. Acoustic panels absorb sound inside a room to reduce echo and reverberation. They don't block sound transmission between rooms or from outside. If your problem is footsteps from upstairs, conversations through party walls, or traffic noise from outside, that's soundproofing — and it requires structural solutions (acoustic plasterboard, resilient bars, isolation) rather than panels.
How do I treat noise in an open-plan home?
How do I treat noise in an open-plan home?
Open-plan layouts are one of the most common UK domestic acoustic challenges and they need treatment in multiple zones rather than just one room. Priority surfaces are the ceiling above the main living area (where sound from kitchen, dining and living zones all reflect), the largest hard wall surface in the space, and any glass partitions or hard backdrops. Suspended ceiling rafts work especially well in modern open-plan homes because they capture sound on multiple faces and can sit between existing services or lighting. Even modest treatment — say, 3-4 ceiling rafts plus one wall panel — usually transforms how the space sounds during cooking, conversations and family activity.
Where should panels be placed in a home or flat?
Where should panels be placed in a home or flat?
The wall opposite your main speaker or noise source is the highest priority — that's where the most problematic reflections originate. The wall behind your seating in living areas is next. For bedrooms, the wall behind the bed and the ceiling above are useful. Hallways with hard floors and tall walls benefit from panels on the longest hard wall. As a rule, treat the surfaces nearest where you spend the most time first.
Can I install panels in a rented property without damaging walls?
Can I install panels in a rented property without damaging walls?
Yes — several products in our range are specifically designed for removable installation. Check out our rotofast fixings. If wall fixings aren't permitted at all, free-standing acoustic screens give you the same acoustic benefit without any installation. Mention you're renting when ordering and we'll point you toward the lowest-impact options.
How many panels do I need?
How many panels do I need?
Smaller rooms (bedrooms, snugs, home offices) usually need 3-6 panels covering 20-30% of one or two main wall surfaces. Larger spaces — open-plan kitchen/diners, apartment lounges — need 6-12 panels often spread across walls and ceiling. The acoustic calculator gives you a precise figure based on your room dimensions and current materials.
Will acoustic panels reduce noise from neighbours?
Will acoustic panels reduce noise from neighbours?
Slightly, but honestly not enough to count as a real solution. Acoustic panels reduce reflections within your room, which can marginally lower the overall noise level. But they don't block sound transmission through party walls, ceilings or floors. If your problem is genuinely a noisy neighbour, footsteps from above, or conversations through walls, the right solution is soundproofing — typically acoustic plasterboard, resilient mounting systems, or floor isolation. We're happy to suggest soundproofing-focused suppliers if that's your problem; we just don't sell that category ourselves.
How much does acoustic treatment for a home cost?
How much does acoustic treatment for a home cost?
For a typical room (bedroom, snug, dining area), expect £200–£800 on materials. PET felt panels at the lower end (around £40-80 per panel), fabric-wrapped or 3D tiles at the mid-range, premium printed or timber slat designs at the higher end. For larger open-plan areas or whole-home treatment across multiple rooms, expect £800–£2,500 depending on scope. Most home projects fall well under £1,500 because relatively modest coverage produces strong results.
Can acoustic panels match my home's design?
Can acoustic panels match my home's design?
Yes — and increasingly people choose them as design features rather than functional add-ons. PET felt comes in 25+ colours and adds texture. Fabric-wrapped panels in premium Camira or Kvadrat finishes look like designed wall features. Timber slat panels create the warm Scandinavian feature walls that have become a UK home interior signature. 3D wall tiles like BAUX bring sculptural interest. Printed acoustic panels can carry custom photography or artwork — high-performance absorbers that double as wall art.
Are home acoustic panels fire-rated and safe?
Are home acoustic panels fire-rated and safe?
Yes. Every panel we sell carries a UK/EU fire classification suitable for residential use — typically Euroclass B-s1,d0 or higher under BS EN 13501-1. Materials are non-toxic, low-VOC and made from recycled or sustainable sources where possible (PET felt is typically made from recycled plastic bottles). Specific certifications are listed on each product page.
