FAQs
Do acoustic ceiling panels block noise from upstairs neighbours?
Do acoustic ceiling panels block noise from upstairs neighbours?
No — and this is the most common mix-up. Acoustic ceiling panels absorb sound inside a room to reduce echo and reverberation. Blocking sound transmission between floors is soundproofing, which needs dense, layered construction (mass-loaded vinyl, resilient bars, isolation clips). If your problem is footsteps from above, you need a different product entirely.
How many ceiling panels do I need?
How many ceiling panels do I need?
A reasonable starting point is 20–30% ceiling coverage for general spaces, rising to 40%+ for restaurants, sports halls or anywhere with a lot of hard surfaces. The exact figure depends on room volume, surface materials and how much reverberation you're trying to remove. Try our acoustic calculator or send us your room dimensions and we'll come back with a recommendation.
What's the difference between Class A, B, C and D absorption?
What's the difference between Class A, B, C and D absorption?
It's the EN ISO 11654 rating for how much sound a product absorbs. Class A is the highest (αw ≥ 0.90) — almost all sound that hits the panel is absorbed. Class D is the lowest useful rating. For meaningful echo reduction, we always recommend Class A, which is what most Ecophon Solo and SilentSpace rafts deliver.
Rafts, baffles or ceiling tiles — what's the difference?
Rafts, baffles or ceiling tiles — what's the difference?
Rafts hang horizontally from the ceiling and absorb sound on top and bottom faces. Baffles hang vertically (think fins) and are great for high or industrial ceilings. Tiles drop into a standard 600x600 or 1200x600 grid ceiling. Rafts give you the best performance per panel; tiles are easiest if you already have a grid ceiling.
How are they fixed to the ceiling?
How are they fixed to the ceiling?
Most rafts come with adjustable wire hangers and spiral fixings, suspended directly from the soffit above. Some smaller panels can be fixed flush with adhesive. Grid tiles simply lay into the existing T-bar. Fixings are included with every product.
Are they fire-rated?
Are they fire-rated?
Yes — most products we sell carries a UK/EU fire classification, typically Euroclass B-s1,d0 or better. Specific ratings are listed on each product page so you can match them to your project's specification.
What's the lead time?
What's the lead time?
Stocked items ship in 2–5 working days. Made-to-order panels (custom sizes, custom fabrics) typically take 2–8 weeks. The exact lead time is shown on every product page before you order.
Can I install them myself?
Can I install them myself?
Yes — most of our rafts and tiles are designed for straightforward DIY installation with the included fixings. A drill, a tape measure and a stepladder is usually all you need. For larger commercial jobs we can recommend installers.
Do you offer samples?
Do you offer samples?
Yes — order fabric and material samples here before committing to a colour. Highly recommended if you're matching to existing interior finishes.
